Services: Education & Prevention

At Positive Living North (PLN) in Fort St. John, we recognize that HIV, HCV (Hepatitis C), and STBBIs (Sexually Transmitted and Blood-Borne Infections) touch all of humanity and affect everyone in our communities.

Northeastern BC faces unique realities, and open, stigma-free conversations about sexual health and harm reduction can sometimes be difficult to find. Our Fort St. John office houses a Community Health Educator dedicated to changing that by removing barriers, breaking down taboos, and bringing vital prevention education right to the community.

Currently, our Fort St. John office focuses exclusively on delivering high-quality, impactful Education and Prevention Services across the region.

Regional Coverage

Our Fort St. John education services extend well beyond city limits. We actively support and deliver workshops to:

  • Fort St. John & Taylor
  • Dawson Creek & Pouce Coupe
  • Chetwynd & Tumbler Ridge
  • Fort Nelson and surrounding rural and Indigenous communities

Our Educational Workshops & Services

Our community health education is interactive, compassionate, and grounded in northern realities. We offer workshops and presentations tailored for schools, community organizations, First Nations communities, frontline workers, correctional facilities, and the general public.

Our primary workshops include the following, but not limited to:

  • HIV/AIDS/HCV 101 & Other STBBIs: A breakdown of the basics of HIV, Hepatitis C, and other STBBIs, understanding how transmission occurs, busting myths, and learning practical ways to keep yourself and your community safe.
  • Harm Reduction & Safer Practices: Evidence-based, non-judgmental strategies to reduce the risks of STBBIs and toxic drug poisonings. This includes safer consumption education, risk reduction for shared equipment, and Naloxone training.
  • Healthy Relationships & Consent: An exploration of what healthy connections look like. We cover communication, setting boundaries, navigating consent, and discussing how healthy relationships are a vital piece of holistic health and risk reduction.
  • Gender Identity & Sexual Orientation: Workshops focused on celebrating diversity, understanding terminology across 2SLGBTQIA+ identities, and fostering spaces where everyone feels safe to show up as their authentic self.
  • Cultural Safety & Decolonial Wellness: Aligning sexual health and harm reduction with Indigenous-led wellness, understanding historical trauma’s impact on healthcare, and bringing a decolonial lens to community care.
